Instructional Focus: Literacy

The instructional focus statement at Horse Hill is: We use reading and writing to construct meaning as measured by HLAT’s, PAT’s and school based interim measures.   

Our major initiative to support this is the involvement of all staff in Balanced Literacy Training.  This intensive Professional Development activity will be combined with work in assessment for learning techniques which will truly strengthen not only teaching, but student understanding of how to be responsible learners. 

We are working to define a meaningful way of measuring student success at the school.  Our indicators for year end will be Provincial Achievement Tests and District Highest Level of Achievement Tests.
